Understanding the dynamics and energetics of the conformational transitions in AMPA receptors

AMPA receptors (-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-isoxazole propionic acid) contitute a given type of membrane channels allowing the synaptic depolarization due to the entrance of Na+ íons. This implies collective motions allowing the openning of a channel in the transmembrane domain that was characterized by the lowest frequency normal modes. The left pannel of the figure depicts one of these global movements, and the right pannel the openning of the channel.
