Microfluidic platform

The development of manufacturing techniques of miniaturized systems including electrical, fluidic or optical functions is  a major asset for the study of chemical or biological systems. On one hand the scales of tools produced by the use of micro and nanotechnologies are well suited to the studied phenomena. On other hand, at this scales, some particular physical properties can be used. The implementation of such microfluidic systems  needs  the convergence of expertise in chemistry, biology, physics and chemical engineering.

Development of microsystems and applications in chemistry and biology

The technical platform puts together the necessary equipments for the manufacture of microfluidic systems: 

  • A preparation room, with « soft » technologies, of microsystems in polydiméthoxysiloxane (PDMS) or in photoresist resin (SU8), materials of choice for phototyping, combined with substrates such as glass or silicium. PDMS, for example, optically transparent, low fluorescent, chimically stable for many solvents is compatible with biological applications. The photolithography steps  are realizes in the Institute cleanroom. Equipments : tournette, plasma O2, étuve, ...
  • A characterization room for microsystems realised, dedicated to biological applications, analytical chemistry, synthetic chemistry. There is a bench for chemical analysis by detecting fluorescence, and a platform for a patch-clamp chip. Equipments: microscopes, pousses seringues, cameras, détection synchrone, technologie LED ...
  • a L2 room for biological characterizations of cell chips.

Target applications

The applications developed and planned by the teams involved on the microfluidic platform settle:

  • The micromanufacturing of chips for cellulomique : microarrays to study single cells or tissues, application to cell fusion for cancer immunotherapy, nanoporation cellulaire
  • The micro-chip manufacturing for measuring the activity of proteins or membrane ion channels in biomimetic artificial environments
  • The microfluidic chip detection on the content of heavy metals for environmental applications
  • The on-chip synthesis of nanocrystals : hydrodynamic study of the reactants mixture, control of this mixture, suivi cinétique in-situ par coupling analysis and fluorescence microscopy.

L'ensemble de ces équipements sont regroupés dans le bâtiment de l'Institut d'Alembert au rez-de-chaussée Haut dans les pièces H7 à H9.
